Saint Nestor
Celebration date: 27/10/2021
Nestor was very young in age, handsome in appearance, and acquainted with the holy and glorious Demetrius (see October 26).
Nestor, therefore, seeing that the emperor Diocletian was rejoicing in the victories of a stout barbarian named Lyaeus, hated his pride. But seeing the miracles of Saint Demetrius, he took courage. So he went to the prison, where the Great Martyr was confined, and fell at his feet.
Servant of God Demetrius, he said, I am willing to duel with Lyaeus, so pray for me in the name of Christ. The Saint, after sealing him with the sign of the Holy Cross, told him that Lyaeus will also win and will testify for Christ.
Then, therefore, Nestor entered the stadium without fear and exclaimed: “God of Demetrius, help me”. And after he had fought with Lyaeus, he struck him hard with his knife in the heart and killed him.
Enraged at the time, Diocletian ordered and killed Nestor with a spear, as well as Demetrius. Thus, with this action, Nestor taught that in every human challenge we must exclaim: “Lord, I am a helper, and I will not be afraid of what man will do to me?” (Psalm nine’ 5). The Lord is my helper and I will not be afraid. What will any man do to me?
