Saint James the Apostle and Adelfotheos first bishop of Jerusalem
Celebration date: 23/10/2021
Tradition states that he was one of Joseph’s sons by another woman, hence he was called the Lord’s brother. However, his relative relationship with the Lord is not unanimously defined. But the fact is that James the brother god became the first bishop of Jerusalem and he is the one who wrote the first Divine Liturgy of the Christian Church.
James, therefore, shepherded the Church of Jerusalem with justice, with brave affection and firmness in faith. This, however, proclaimed the wickedness and wickedness of the Jews. After they caught him, they threw him over the wing of the Temple, and while he was still alive, he was beaten with a fierce club on the head.
The work of James is also his Catholic Epistle to the New Testament, in which he advises us about how we should handle the word of God: “Become poets of the word and not just hearers, reasoning yourselves” (Epistle of James, 1 22). That is, to become executors and keepers of the word of God and not just listeners. And do not deceive yourself, with the idea that it is enough just to listen to the word.
Finally, the memory of Saint James the Brother of God is also brought on the Sunday after the Nativity of Christ, together with the memory of David the Prophet and Joseph the minister, accompanied by the following couplet: “You are a mason, but a brother of the Lord, of always running, in reason, makar”. This is how the Synaxis is held in the seventh Temple of the Most Holy Theotokos in Chalkopratei.
