Saint Auxentios came from Syria. He lived in Constantinople during the reign of Emperor Theodosius II the Younger (408 – 450 AD) and held the office of military scholar.

So he abandoned his honors and positions and retired to a rocky mountain in Chalcedon, the Sharp Stone, where he practiced asceticism, while at the same time he engaged in the study and study of the Holy Bible. Such was his reputation for his rare virtues and deep theological education that he was invited to the Fourth Ecumenical Synod, convened in the year 451 AD. to Chalcedon to condemn the misdeeds of Eutychus.
Many people came to his hermitage every day to receive his blessing, including many rich people who brought him food and gifts.
But he used for himself a little bread for his maintenance, and wax for his chapel. He distributed the rest to the poor. The respect for Saint Osios led to the establishment of a women’s monastery at the foot of the mountain.
The Holy God blessed Saint Auxentios with the gift of miracles and so he performed many miracles. Osios slept in peace between the years 470 – 472 AD.
