Saint Autonomos
Date of celebration: 12/09
Saint Autonomos was a bishop in Italy and had a rich Christian activity in his diocese. When the persecution of Diocletian began, he left his position and went to the Sorei of Asia Minor. There he settled in the house of a Christian, Cornelius, and continued to teach the Gospel.
He then went to Lycaonia and Isauria to continue his work.
Before starting his journey he ordained Cornelius a deacon. After some time when he returned to Sorei, and saw the very good work that had made many people embrace Christianity, he ordained him a priest. After visiting many areas in the Black Sea, he returns to Cornelius and ordains him bishop.
The spectacular work that Saint Autonomos has done disturbs the pagans and they stone him to death while he was officiating inside the temple in 313 AD.
