Prayer for the coronavirus
Poem by Metropolitan Iohil of Edessa
Lord Jesus Christ our God, the chief physician of souls and bodies,
who through us became human, so that you could heal the great trauma of man,
who did not despise the innocent by curing ten lepers,
but with your saving grace you cleansed them, who passed as a God-man the days of your presence on earth doing good and healing all those who were sick and ill, who did good and
you restored by healing, the paralyzed, the blind,
grievous sinners, demon-possessed and afflicted both in the flesh and in the mind,
graciously accept our prayer and flee in your strength,
the killer god wearing the shape of a crown, and causing fear or even death in the sick and the afflicted.
And if because of our many sins, you allowed this temptation,
We beg you for mercy, to take him away from us and from the whole world.
But if by the test of faith you saved his dominion,
stop the turmoil of the sick from his epidemic.
But if through the malice of the object or the negligence of the people at the time this was spread,
break his power as God almighty. Keep the youth,
and watch over the sick, and heal those who are in old age from the deadly disease,
and everything is freed from the unity of the heart, and instead you are given to us,
Healthy comfort and peace, embassies of the Lady Theotokos and all your saints. Amen.
