Gathering of the Archangel Gabriel
Celebration date: 26/03
The name Gabriel means “man of God”. In the Holy Bible, we meet Archangel Gabriel once in the Old Testament and twice in the New.
In the Old Testament, Daniel presents him to us in a vision (H’ 16-17), when he asks him for its explanation. There a man appears before him, who is the Archangel Gabriel, and explains to him that the ram with the two horns meant the kings of Media and Persia, and the hairy goat, the king of Greece.
In the New Testament, the archangel Gabriel is sent to Zechariah (Luke 1:11-19) and announces to him that his wife Elizabeth will conceive and give birth to John the Baptist. Archangel Gabriel, too, is the one who announces to the Virgin Mary the conception and birth of Christ the Savior (see March 25).
