Agios Tycho the Miraculous Bishop
Date of celebration: 16/06
Agios Tycho lived in the years of the emperors Arcadius and Onirius. He came from a pious family, and his virtuous parents raised him “in the education and admonition of the Lord”, so very quickly Tycho distinguished himself for his moral character, prudence, discernment and study of the Holy Scriptures.
At a young age and appreciating his rare virtues, Bishop Mnemonios (celebrated on June 16) ordained him a deacon. But quickly his virtue and his great catechetical activity made him the successor of Mnemonium.
As a Bishop he was distinguished for his administrative gifts, his charitable activity and the spreading of the word of God, which bore rich fruits, converting many pagans. Saint Tycho destroyed many pagan temples and erected Christian ones in their place. He was even honored by the All-Good God with the gift of miracles, performing many miracles and many healings and blessings. With his fervent prayer he revived even the dry and barren land of the region to help the poor and weak farmers, who had come to a standstill. He lived with prayer, exercise, fasting and above all humility and fought until his last breath for Orthodoxy and the truth.
He slept peacefully and was buried amid general emotion.
