Saint Thomas
Celebration Date: 14/04
Saint Thomas was born and lived in Alexandria and was distinguished for her piety and spiritual education. From an early age she had devoted herself to works of charity and mercy, accompanying her mother. he continued to practice this ministry even when he got married.
Agia had an ever blessed family. She was connected to her husband with true and genuine love. However, their peaceful coexistence was envied by the inventor of evil, the devil, and he wanted to separate them, in a tragic way.
Once when Thomaida was alone at home, because her husband was away on business, she was immorally attacked by her husband’s father, i.e. her father-in-law, who, possessed by the demon of fornication and enslaved to the passion of debauchery, wanted to he has an affair with her. The Saint, who always had the sense of God’s omnipresence alive in her memory and lived with purity and sobriety, resisted with firmness and courage. She tried to convince him that such a thing should not be done, because it is against the will of God, which was for her a way of life and a source of inspiration. But he, blinded by passion, persisted, threatening her with death. Saint Thomas continued to resist and preferred death to slavery to the state of sin and the power of death. For the martyrdom exit from this short life for the glory of God is not death, but a transition from death to life. It is a victory of life over death.
That unfortunate man stabbed her to death and after this tragic incident he lost his light and wandered around the house as if lost. In this state he was found by some neighbors who were looking for his son, and handed him over to the authorities to be tried. While Thomaida, as St. Nicodemus the Saint writes, “received a martyr’s crown for sobriety”.
The head of the hermitage of Alexandria, monk Daniel, as soon as he was informed of the martyrdom of Thomaida, immediately went down to the city with some monks and received the holy relic of the Saint. He carried it with reverence to Skete and buried it with honors in the cemetery of the Fathers. Then the following miracle happened. A certain monk, who was fighting the demon of prostitution and had been suffering for a long time, prayed at the place where the Martyr’s remains were buried, asking for her help. and having anointed his body with oil from the candle burning at her tomb, he was freed from temptation and at peace. But from time to time other believers, monks and laity, who were tormented by carnal temptations, prayed to the Saint and with her embassies they were strengthened in their struggle or were freed from passion.
