Agios Efsychios who was martyred in Caesarea
Celebration date: 09/04
Agios Eupsichios lived in the years of Julian the Transgressor. Although newly married, this did not prevent him from showing his great love for Christ in practice. In Caesarea of Cappadocia, Julian had built an idol of the goddess Tyche, which the pagans ostentatiously worshiped every day. Eupsychios, having taken with him some other bold youths, went and overthrew the idol. When he was arrested, he told the official that Julian has no right to do pagan things in Christian Caesarea. Of course, Efsychios knew in advance that the decision would be damning. Indeed, his associates were sentenced to torture and exile. While he himself, as the leader of the act, was sentenced to death by beheading. Thus, Eupsychios was classified in that group of people, about which the Lord said: “He who has lost his soul owes it to me to find it” (Gospel of Matthew, 10:39). That is, he who will lose his life for his faith in me, will gain the blessed and higher life.
