Saint Procopius the Decapolitan the Confessor
Celebration date: 27/02
Saint Procopius the Decapolitan lived during the years of the iconoclast emperor Leo of Isaurus (717 – 741 AD) and was distinguished for his spiritual bravery as a defender of Orthodoxy. Although he followed monasticism from a young age, he did not stay in the isolation of his cell, but fought vigorously against the iconoclasts. For this he suffered many tortures, floggings, prisons and exiles. He also distinguished himself in the Church’s struggle against the heretical Monophysites.
Agios Procopius seems to have fallen asleep shortly after his release, while according to others he suffered a martyr’s death.
