Saint Hysichios the Convener
March 2
Agios Hesychios lived in the years of Galerius Maximianus, at the beginning of the 4th century AD, and held the office of Synagogue. When the persecution against the Christians broke out, he was suggested to deny his faith and save his life and his office. But Hesychius did not hesitate to despise all the honors and promises and with wonderful willingness he confessed his faith.
Then the king was enraged and ordered him to be stripped of his honors of office and clothed in humiliating garments, and then ridiculed him in front of all the officials. However, the Saint accepts everything without protest, because he knows that human values are temporary, while heavenly values are eternal.
Enraged by Hesychius’ heroic attitude, Maximian orders his death. The soldiers lead the Saint to the river Orontis, where after tying a stone to his neck they threw him into the deepest part. Thus he deserved to be a witness for his faith in Christ.
