Saint Pamphilus and the Martyrs with him
Date of celebration: 16/02
The Holy Martyrs Pamphilus, Daniel, Ilias, Isaiah, Theodolos, Jeremiah, Julian, Valis, Paul, Porphyrios, Samuel and Seleucus, were martyred during the reign of Emperor Diocletian (284 – 305 AD). They came from different places, but they were united by the love and faith of Christ.
Workers in Caesarea, Palestine confessed Christ before the prefect Firmilianos. The ruler made every effort to convince the Saints to deny their faith in Christ. They, however, remained steadfastly committed to their original piety. Then Firmilian gave orders to put them to death, after first torturing them.
The Holy Martyrs Elias, Pamphilus, Walis, Paul, Seleucus, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Samuel and Daniel were beheaded by swords. Porphyrios, a servant of Pamphilus, was captured while searching for his master’s relic and was burned alive together with the Martyr Julian. Saint Theodoulos was crucified on wood. This is how the Saints were martyred and were added to the choir of Christ’s athletes.
The Assembly of the Holy Martyrs was held in the Great Church.
