Saint Luciano the hieromartyr Elder of the Church of Antioch
Date of celebration: 15/10
Saint Lucian came from Samosata in Syria and was the son of a pious family. He received the necessary education and after the death of his parents, at the age of 12, he distributed his property to the poor.
He immersed himself in the study of the Holy Bible and, being knowledgeable in Hebrew, he corrected and completed the translations of O’, Aquila, Symmachus and Diocletian on the basis of the original, donating his translation to the church of Nicomedia.
He was ordained a presbyter in Antioch and distinguished himself for the fervor of his preaching, with which he incited the faithful to martyrdom. When he was informed that Diocletian was persecuting the Christians in Nicomedia, he left Antioch and went there to support them. But he was arrested by Diocletian, imprisoned and starved to death.
