Prophet Samuel
Date of celebration: 20/08
The Prophet Samuel was born in Armathaim Sifa on Mount Ephraim, from the tribe of Levi. He was the son of Elkanah and Anna, who was barren and through prayer God gave her a child, Samuel, who dedicated him to God to express her gratitude.
When Samuel grew up, he served the Lord and became a great prophet and judge of the righteous people. He anointed kings, Saul and David, prophesied for 40 years and died in old age.
However, let us mention some of his edifying speeches, which he spoke to the people of Israel, but which are also applicable to the peoples of every era. So he says: “If you fear the Lord and serve him and listen to his voice and do not curse at the mouth of the Lord, then you and the king who reigns over you will walk behind the Lord; but if you do not listen to the voice of the Lord and curse at the mouth of the Lord , and let the Lord’s hand be upon you and upon your king” (I Kings, 15:14-15).
That is, if you fear and consider the Lord, and worship Him and obey His commandments, and do not react to what the Lord commands you, and follow firmly both you and the ruler who governs you in the way that the Lord indicates to you, I say to you everything will be fine. You will have the Lord’s blessing. But if you do not obey the commandments of the Lord, then it will fall upon you and your ruler, the heavy hand of the Lord and you will be punished.
We should also note that the Prophet Samuel wrote 1 and 2 Kings (in the Hebrew Bible these two books are united and bear his name). And Samuel’s horn, which had the oil with which David was anointed king, was in Constantinople, in the Monastery called Myriokeraton. Finally, let us mention that Samuel founded the mystical order of the Essenes.
