Saint Akylini
Feast date: 13/06
Saint Akylini, who came from an aristocratic and wealthy family in Palestine, lived during the reign of Emperor Diocletian. At the age of just five, he was baptized by Bishop Euthalios. Eutolmios’ father also helped in this, who also created suitable conditions for his daughter to remain steadfast in the Christian faith, strengthening her attitude in various ways.
Thus, at a young age, Akylini began to preach and teach with fervor the word of God and by associating with the daughters of pagans she managed to attract many of them to the Orthodox faith. At the same time, her performance in works of philanthropy and charity became proverbial.
This brilliant action of hers was reported to the proconsul Ulosianos, who, after arresting her, tried in every way to force her to renounce her faith. The Saint, however, remained steadfast and upright and defiantly, although a young girl, confessed her faith in the One and true God.
Enraged, the proconsul hit her violently in the face so that the saint was covered in blood. She is then subjected to horrible tortures and in the end, Ulosianos, ashamed of not being able to bend the faith of a weak girl, ordered her to be beheaded, classifying her in the “surrounding cloud of martyrs and saints”.
