Saint Plato Aivazidis

Saint Plato Aivazidis was born in Patmos in 1852 AD. and was brought up with Christian ideals. At the age of 15, he became a cadet at the Monastery of Agios Ioannou the Theologian and studied at the Patmiada School.
In 1892 AD he became a Deacon of the Metropolitan of Lemnos and later went to study in Constantinople. There he met the Metropolitan of Kastoria, Germanos Karavangelis, who became his assistant.
When Germanos became Metropolitan of Amasia in the region of Pontus, Plato followed him. There he was accused by the Turks of having incited a Greek revolution and was finally hanged on September 21, 1921 AD.
